We wanted something quick and simple to eat last night.  Getting back from London fairly late our choices were limited. Frankie and Benny’s had just opened up on Fosse Island Retail Park in York and we therefore hit the place just before 9pm when it seemed most customers would have been and gone.  The service was very good, with smiling people looking after us throughout.  The food was not great, but then again we didn’t expect it to be.  All we wanted was quickly served comfort food that didn’t require much thought.  In that sense this place met the mark.  Clearly a professional operation, the kitchen (open to view) was spotless and the menu exactly the same as that experienced in our last visit to Frankie and Benny’s in Cambridge.  Fed and watered we were happy.  The downside to this place, is the sheer noise, made worse by the wooden floor and the clanking of cutlery being put back in the drawers by over zealous staff.  Paper napkins were of course in evidence and as usual this annoyed me very much.
