Dusty and I had visited this restaurant a couple of years before returning yesterday evening for dinner. Our expectations were high based on that last visit, which was most enjoyable. The food, wine and service then was fantastic. This time was not quite the same. Taking a seat in the corner window, where we could people watch those walking past outside, we placed our order. I went for Soup of the Day (£4.95) while Dusty went for Tempura Prawns (£5.95) as a starter. For the main I ordered up Organic Salmon Fillet (£15.95) and Dusty ordered the Warm Duck Salad (£11.95). To drink we ordered up some water and a bottle of Nobillo Southern Rivers from New Zealand (£21.00). This was served immediately but we both agreed it could have been better chilled.
Having spent a little time watching the eye candy walk past outside, the food arrived. My soup was piping hot and while it was OK, was nothing special. Dusty said her Tempura Prawns were greasy and the accompanying noodles overcooked. My main dish of Organic Salmon was nicely presented along with a Rocket Salad, I’d ordered as a side (£3.25) and while pleasant, did not stand out. The salmon was bland. The Warm Duck Salad for Dusty was alright (her words – she is not quite awake yet).
Dusty ordered up a sticky toffee pudding (£5.25) for desert and we ended up sharing it. This was by far and away the best bit. Beautiful.
Overall the service was OK, nothing out the ordinary, but for Cambridge, probably great by their normal standards.
