According to Wikipedia Valentines Day was a pagan festival that was re-named after two martyrs named Valentine. Being a stickler for grammar then surely the day belonging to two Valentines should require an apostrophe after the s – thus Valentines’ Day. Hope that is clear now! But a history site only mentions a single Valentine, so the apostrophe must be before the s – Valentine’s Day. Regardless of the number of Valentines we need an apostrophe somewhere.
