b1efb68a64f0cf2f42a8cdabbf308e47I arrived at the Smugglers Tavern on Warren Street in London with a colleague Monday evening for a drink and bite to eat.  This pub had been recommended to me by another of my colleagues who insisted the food was very good indeed.

As you approach the pub, you would be forgiven for just walking on by, because at first, it looks a little small, cramped, stuffy and intimidating place.  However you would be making a mistake if you did.  We entered the pub and walked to the back where a friendly young girl was serving behind the bar.  There is a limited range of wines on offer, but those that are, were great value and very drinkable indeed.  We ordered up a bottle of Fish Hoek and then placed our order for some food.

Above this pub is a small Thai kitchen preparing food which was run by an affable Thai gentleman.  After taking our order he disappeared upstairs while we took a seat outside where it was cool and breezy in the evening sun.  With overhead electric heating available at the push of a button, it was actually quite pleasant watching the Warren Street world walk by while we sat under the heaters sipping our chilled white wine.

The food soon arrived at our table and it was very pleasant indeed given it had been produced above a pub so quickly.  While perhaps not the very best Thai I have ever had it was a good average and after a hard day’s work (yes I can do them babes), it was a welcome treat.

Overall the atmosphere was fine, the pub was pleasant and seemed clean and well run.  A pleasant evening.
