We wanted to take a look at some fish tanks, and therefore set off to Knaresborough for a spot of research. While we were at Moorland Nurseries, we stopped at the Lime Tree Cafe for lunch. There was a big sign outside the cafe, asking you to wait before being seated (at a cafe I tell you!) and besides that there was another sign put up by the nursery owner, telling you to make sure you queue on the left so as not to block the small passage way in this ‘hickelty pickelty’ garden nursery.
Anyway, we walked in regardless and took a table. A smiling waitress having taken the order from people who entered after us, came across. We opted for fresh coffee for two, a roast ham and cheese baked potato and open beef sandwich. The food that quickly arrived was presented well. However the ingredients were pretty standard. The roast ham looked like processed ham that comes out of a packet, rather than freshly cut from the bone ham, which their description implied. The roast beef sandwich was nicely pink served up on a fresh bread roll.
In the name of research we then chose a desert each. I opted for the fresh fruit tart while Paul went for the apple pie, both being served with ice cream. The mass catering taste and cheap ingredients were disappointing. The ice cream was especially cheap and nasty.
As mentioned earlier, the staff were friendly and the service was reasonably good and the place was spotless. The toilets were not as good and on my way there, I noticed another sign (what is it with signs barking orders in this place) that said “Don’t hold a table for more than 10 minutes”.
The total bill of around £26, was very excessive for the quality provided so if we ever go again, we’ll be sticking to the coffee which was quite good.
Pryordurkin rating 2 stars.
I must totally disagree with this “customers” coments.
This is one of the busiest cafe in the district.
Local people and those from nearby city areas frequent this place probably the same as Bettys in nearby Harrogate.
The food is fantastic, staff are attentive and the whole place is so busy that you have to queue to get a table, that says something for the place.
The menu is varied and changes and there is always specials all at very reasonable prices.
The food is cooked on the premises and is always top quality and good portions.
I have wheat/gluton problems and they really specialise in food totally without these products and they know what exactly is in the food.
There is an outside section during the summer that is nice to sit in and the inside is clean, attractive and is buzzing with activity.
Its a nice garden centre and the staff in there are equally attentive and helpful.
The whole place compliments itself and to add extra comment there is a delicatessen that has a great selection of products including wines and the staff here are equally helpful and full of knowledge.
Drive passed any day of the week and the car park is full, that tells its own story.
