This has been a consistently good place for us to stop off for lunch.  We have taken both friends and family along on a number of occasions and have always been pleased with the experience.  However today, like last week, we left feeling the standards are starting to slip.

Like last week, the top floor pub restaurant was closed, despite the sign outside saying it was open.  We both ordered up Sunday lunch.  Paul went for the beef and I opted for the pork.

They were served up with plenty of vegetables which were nicely cooked and the meat itself was clearly cooked on the premises and reasonable quality.  However it both were slightly spopilt by the very sweet gravy that drowned everything on the plate.  I think they use the same gravy, regardless of whether you have beef or pork, which is a shame. I was also puzzled by the small addition of a side salad on my plate.

As I said earlier, the top floor restaurant was closed (again) and we were seated on the 2nd floor in what is effectively a bar area.  The tables are tiny and we struggled.  One table was set for three people.  We have no idea how that would have worked.  The wine glasses on the table were not exactly sparkling.  Water marked mainly, but last week, my glass had clear signs of old lipstick.  The paper napkins only dampened my mood further.

We settled up the £25 bill (no alcohol) and left, disappointed that our once favourite pub restaurant seems to be on a downward slide at the moment. The string Paul found on his plate only confirmed this further!
