We decided to try a new eatery for lunch today and went into the newly opened Filmore and Union café at 62a Low Petergate in York. This small looking café on the ground floor has a larger seating area upstairs where we took a table at around 1pm today. The place was packed and during the course of our lunch, regularly had people waiting for tables to become free.
The ethos of this café centres on natural raw local ingredients cooked and prepared on the premises by ( a very nice looking ) chef who starts work at 4am each day. The only thing they buy in ready-made is the bagels and roasted coffee beans, everything else is freshly prepared that morning or made to order.
I went for the smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel, while Paul went for the Salt Beef bagel with mustard. Both were served up with the freshest salad leaves you could find and along with the freshly squeezed and mixed fruit smoothie I ordered we enjoyed this a great deal.
In the name of research we finished off with a great desert. I opted for a lime cheesecake which was wonderfully light and refreshing while Paul went for a very moist slice of pistachio cake. Rounded off with a good ground coffee I was happy indeed.
The overall cost for lunch came in at just over £40 and we would certainly recommend this to our family and friends if they fancied something a little special.
